    1. TRANSLATION NOTES

The lyrics are in the replies to this comment. Also for some of the lyrics in the MV, I switched some diacretics in the romanization (ta -> da; se -> ze) on accident. The correct lyrics are in the replies and on Project-IM@S.

The color-coding was done entirely by ear, so I’m sorry if I made any mistakes. If there are corrections, I will put them as notes in this pinned comment. | パート分けはすべて耳で判断して行ったため、もし間違いがあれば申し訳ありません。誤りがあればこの固定コメントで修正していきます。

TITLE: “ガラクタ (garakuta)” could be interpreted in multiple ways. It can by read as “junk, trash, odds-and-ends” or “galacta” referring to outer space.

[0:06] – “メ組のメ (me-kumi no me)” is a weird phrase, but let me explain. First, the katakana character for me (メ) looks like a brightly shining star on a diagonal -> ✦. This star is featured in Hatsuboshi Gakuen’s school logo as well as a component of the idols’ costumes. Furthermore, the kanji 組 (kumi) usually denotes a group of something. Putting these two things together, “メ組” (me-kumi) denotes a “group of stars.” Since the Hatsuboshi Idol Festival is to find the next “Prima Stella (一番星 / ichiban boshi),” it seeks to find the brightest star out of all the stars in the sky (idols at Hatsuboshi Gakuen). Therefore, “メ組のメ” describes wanting to be the brightest star, or THE Prima Stella.

[1:10] – “どや” (doya) is a term most used in ending sentences to show that the speaker is very proud or boastful concerning something they’ve done or are.

[1:22] – “舞い上がって” (maiagatte) has a double meaning of either being “whirled up into the sky” (sucked into space by a U.F.O.) or “to make merry or be in high spirits.”

[1:30] – “飛び越えて” (tobikoete) has a double meaning of either being “to jump or fly over” or “to specifically jump ahead or surpass someone."

[1:38] – “マイムマイム (Mayim Mayim ; Water, Water) is a folk dance song highly popularized in Japan after WWII. The dance features people linking hands and moving in a circle around something or a central point.

[3:00] – “初星派” (hatsuboshi-ha) is a phrase that generally means “Hatsuboshi Gakuen.” The character 派 (ha) denotes a group or faction. While the more literal translation would be something like “Hatsuboshi Group,” flat-out naming the school sounds much better and carries the same meaning.

[3:14] – The Crab Nebula is the brightest persistent gamma-ray source in the sky, made from a supernova explosion.

    2. Notice the use of ze/ぜ as an ending particle in the song. This is a very manly way of talking (contrast with the very womanly wa/わ). You hear this in shonen anime songs like say Makafushigi Adventure! but you wouldn't expect to hear this in an Idolmaster song that isn't from SideM.

    3. Thank you so much for this!
Garakuta Road is an absolute banger so I’m happy to have someone else’s take on the lyrics.

    6. そうそうw

      本気で成し遂げたくなる時って
      こういう風に

      「自分には何にもない」

      って笑いながら言えるようになった時だわw

    7. Ohhh I get it!! Hatsuboshi Gakuen themed the event of picking it's newest brightest star around space and getting abducted ("chosen") by aliens, in a galaxy of junk. Thats a really funny direction…..
